ScarboroughRigsbee, PLLC (“we,” “us”) is a certified public accounting firm in Cary, North Carolina. This policy covers this website and the personal information we receive from clients and prospective clients.

Information we collect

Through this website

• Contact form: your name, email address, optional phone number, the topic you choose and your message.
• Technical information: like most websites, our hosting provider may record standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and pages requested) for security and reliability.

We don’t use advertising trackers or sell any information collected on this site.

As a client

To prepare returns and provide accounting and advisory services, we collect information such as names, addresses, Social Security or taxpayer identification numbers, income, financial account and payroll records, and other information you or your authorized representatives provide.

How we use information

• To respond to your inquiry and provide the services you engage us for.
• To prepare and file tax returns and communicate with tax authorities on your behalf when you authorize it.
• To meet our legal, regulatory and professional obligations.

Tax return information

Federal law, including Internal Revenue Code Section 7216, restricts how tax return preparers use and disclose tax return information. We don’t use or disclose your tax return information for any purpose other than preparing your return and providing the services you request, except as the law permits or with your prior written consent.

Our client privacy notice

As a tax preparer, we’re treated as a financial institution under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act. We don’t disclose nonpublic personal information about current or former clients to anyone, except as permitted by law, such as to service providers that help us deliver our services (for example, tax software and secure file-sharing providers) under confidentiality obligations, or when required by law, regulation or professional standards. We don’t share your information with nonaffiliated third parties for their own marketing, so there is nothing you need to opt out of.

Third-party services on this site

• ShareFile hosts our secure client portal. Documents you upload are handled under ShareFile’s security and privacy terms.
• Form processing: messages sent through our contact form are delivered by a third-party form service.
• Google Maps displays our office location on the contact page, and Google Fonts supplies the typefaces on this site. Google may receive your IP address when these load. See Google’s privacy policy for details.

How we protect information

We maintain a written information security program with administrative, technical and physical safeguards designed to protect client information, as required by the FTC Safeguards Rule. That includes secure, encrypted file transfer through our client portal.

Please don’t send Social Security numbers, tax documents or other sensitive information through our contact form or by regular email. Use the client portal instead.

Retention

We keep client records for as long as needed to provide services and as required by law and professional standards. Contact form messages are kept only as long as needed to respond and maintain normal business records.

You may ask us to update or correct your information, or ask what information we hold about you, subject to our legal and professional record-keeping obligations. Contact us using the details below.

Children

This website isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them online.
